The Many Ways Physical Activity Is GREAT For Children

We found an excellent source for the many benefits of physical activity for children from WebMD. Below is a summary of those benefits. And, check out the WebMD video about how children can stay active.Web MD Fit Video

  1. Healthy Lungs and Heart: Exercise makes your lungs and heart stronger for increased energy and endurance. That means you can play, walk, or jog longer without feeling tired. So walking the dog is good for your dog and for you!
  2. Stronger Muscles: Exercise strengthens and stretches muscles. Become the arm-wrestling champ in your family!
  3. Stronger Bones: Exercise builds strong bones. This helps with everything from how tall you stand to your overall strength.
  4. Better Reflexes And Coordination: Exercise helps with reflexes and coordination. That helps you to catch a pop fly on the field, grab a rebound in a neighborhood basketball game, or to land a perfect half-axel when figure skating. Remember, practice helps!
  5. Lower Weight: Exercise helps you manage your weight. With exercise, you burn the calories that you get when you eat food.
  6. Staying Healthy: Exercise can make it less likely that you'll get diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, and some kinds of cancer. Exercise even boosts your immune system, and that may help you avoid getting sick, too.

  7. Exercise Can Help Your Mind: Because exercise gets your blood flowing, that means more oxygen flows to your brain. And that means you can think better.
